My Career
Independent Consultant
June 2020 - present
When the pandemic came into this world in 2020, I started my career as an independent consultant for international development organisations. More than two years in and I have successfully helped development organisations in more than 40 countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia to plan and implement strategies to prevent unintended negative consequences of their projects for human rights, gender and environment. Mostly, I produce political context analyses, focussing particularly on potential risks at the intersection of human rights and the environment/climate. However, I also help the projects to navigate the logistical aspects of their projects, such as MEL, project design and reporting. The projects I supported work in all kinds of fields, from tropical forest conservation and good governance to energy transition and green job creation. The field I know most about and am most passionate about, however, is community forest management, indigenous rights and rights-based conservation, a field in which I have plenty of experience and created a publication.
If you’re reading this, it’s because after I am trying to bring my career as an independent consultant one step further by expanding my client base and working on even bigger assignments. If you need support on any of the above fields and like my experience below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Safeguards Specialist – Human Rights
Asesoramiento Ambiental Estratégico [AAE]
June 2022 - present
As safeguards specialist for AAE, I work on a Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and the creation of a subsequent Environmental and Social Management Framework for conservation projects in the Congo Basin, so as to improve their performance when it comes to including marginalised communities into the conservation effort.
Development Advisor
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit [GIZ]
June 2018 - May 2020
As development advisor for the Brazilian office of the German Development Agency GIZ, I worked for a project that strengthened the governance mechanisms of a Brazilian policy (PNGATI) that seeks to involve indigenous peoples in the management and conservation of their territories, focussing primarily on those in the Amazon rainforest. My tasks involved:
Monitoring, evaluation and reporting
Implementation of project activities (events, meetings, capacity
building)
Contributions to the strategic reflection of the project
Anthropological research on land rights and community conservation
Partner Liaison & Networking
Besides, I won 25.000,00 € to implement an independent research project on a land rights instrument (Planos de Gestão Territorial e Ambiental, PGTAs) and summarise my findings in a report on 20 years of indigenous community forest management in Brazil (published in December 2021).
